I think it is better to have a freedom of choice because then people can experience regular people things. Like in the community i would call the citizens not regular people. They are not regular because they never got to make a choice in their life. Also in the community the people never get to know what it is like to change something. They always have choices done for them. Also if the community collapses or the people go to the out side world they wouldn't be able to survive. Since they always got choices made for them they wouldn't know how to pick correct choices. For example a guy goes up to you and says do you want a million dollars or nothing? The person from the community would most likely not answer or pick a random thing. The saying "you learn from your mistakes" which translates to you learn from something you did right or something you did wrong. So the community people wouldn't know what to do if they had to make a choice. They would be like "I don't know". The last reason why I think the people should make their own choices is that it is unnatural for people to not make their own decisions. It is unnatural because it is like the people are robots. They just do what they are meant for which is work and reproduce.

I think that you should make your choices because than you learn from your mistakes. If you were controlled by other people you would not make a mistake and then you would not learn what you did wrong. If you were controlled by other people they would want you to be perfect. If you were controlled the people who were contriving you they would take half or more rights form you. For example they will make you color blind or you cant driver cars. You only can ride a bike. If you make your own choices you would have your rights back or if you make a mistake you can learn form that again. Sometimes you need to make your own choices. If you make your own choices you would not feel like you are a robot being controlled. But there are are being controlled you mint be safer because that leader does not wont his people to die of any reasons. That is why you should make your own choices. :)

I think it is better to have freedom. Even if you do make a mistake, you can also learn from that mistake too. If you have freedom, you can make choices that you think are good for you. If you were to have choices being made for you, that would just seem like you are baby and the community is making the choices that they think are right for you. The community would think that you cant make right choices instead they probably think that you are going to make the wrong decision. If you have freedom then you don't have to be controlled for your whole life. You don't have to do everything the same as everyone in the community. If everything were to be controlled in life, it would all be the same, nothing would be different. They just want to have everything perfect, nothing odd or abnormal. There should be freedom because you can live like you want, nobody is there to force you to do anything. Nobody picks a job for you because you get to choose what you want to do. If life was to be controlled, then was does being unique mean? It means nothing because everything is the same, there is nothing unique about being the same as everybody. The whole definition of unique is to be different, to be yourself.

I think the idea of everyone having choices is a good thing because we actually get to branch out our options rather than going in the same path every day. It’s better to have mistaken because we can learn from them and we can improve what we can do. Having choices is good like for example if you go to high school then you have choices to pick and you can learn what you are good at rather than if you are good at basketball but is terrible at art but you have to do art so it feels like a restrictions between you and things you love to do. The community is not regular, they are like robots which you have to try and program the imperfections of humans in order to make them under your command but the way humans are supposed to be is who they are and who they want to be, you can’t just change a person like that.
Problems are just obstacles you have to go through in life and everyone has to go through that experience unlike the community which is changed into androids. Life is life, you cannot change ones fate in order to create peace. We are who we are, we were born to live out our lives to the fullest, not isolate yourself in which they could harm you however they want.

In my opinion, I would rather have freedom of choice. The reason to that is because in the community that Jonas is living in no one has the right to do, think, or feel the way they want. The Elders in the community are the ones that makes a decision for everyone. Honestly, the people living in the community haven't seen the rest of the world, all they have seen is their community that's probably it nothing more than that. In this world it is very essential to recognise your surroundings due to the great number of people living here. If something happens in their community and they have to go somewhere else other then the community then I don't really think those people would be able to make a proper living like us. If the community gives you just a little bit of freedom then probably you won't really feel that suffocated living there. Like if i lived in that community i don't think i would feel that pleasant. Because the people are colour blind, they can't drive cars, and they get assigned jobs to work in because of their ability. The community wants everything to be flawless. For example, if a drastic change happens in their life will they be able to handle it? I don't think so! They can't because they had always been spoon feed from the community.

I think it's better to have freedom of choice. In my opinion once you are able to see all colors then black and white would be boring. I think that sameness is more peaceful and fair, but the same thing all the time will eventually get boring no matter what it is. Mistakes are important because we usually learn from them and choose better choices next time. I think applying for a job and marrying who you choose to is more fair than it being chose for you. I say this because you probably wont get the job you're looking for and chances are you'll get matched with a spouse that you barely know. I do like the idea of sameness because that prevents discrimination which leads to wars and other things. Sameness is also more safe and peaceful. I don't like the idea of Climate Control though because I think experiencing something new like a hot or cold climate is fun and enjoyable. I think that being able to choose your own choices is more fair because you are able to apply for the job that you want and marry the person that you want. It's more fun and fair this way

I think that it is better to live in freedom of choice rather than have my choices made for myself in order for me to be safe. The reason I choose to live freedom of choice made for myself because we humans aren’t robots. We shouldn’t have others choose our future for us. The community will have to learn on how to be independent. Giving a front buttoned down jacket in when a Seven to show a sign of independence won’t be enough. If they do have moments in their lives when they have to make our own choices they will forever have a fear of making a mistake. Also, if they do have others choose our future, they will never know how there lives will ever be if they made our own decisions. They would be living the in the Elders decisions not theirs.
Making a mistake is not a big deal; it is part of life. If the Elders keep their community away from making mistakes and freedom of choice, they will never experience the real world. Where in our real world Sameness is not involved. They shouldn’t be forbidding them from making choices because; our choices will lead us to the life that our future holds. If the Elders do continue this, what will the future of the community hold?
Our mistakes are what make us who we are. If we never make a mistake we will never know the things that we could of learned to change about us. To make us remember not to do a certain thing, or to act a certain way. Mistakes will make us gain knowledge. We can share that knowledge to someone else to not make the same mistakes that we have made. Whether if it is a significant other, or if we are lucky it would be our offspring. Making a mistake will not make you look clumsy, but rather human. We are not perfect; we will make mistakes along the journey of our life. Even though knowing that you are safe is the most comforting thing in the world. You will eventually have to get out of the “nest” and experience the life of danger. I would rather live a life of excitement and adventure than being safe any day. That’s why I think it is better to live in freedom of choice rather than have my choices made for myself in order to be safe.

I think it is better to make your own choices. Everything is controlled and that is not fair, people deserve their own freedom. Well first of all they do that so the community should be safe. People should make mistakes because they learn from them. If people are fine with the community being control then that is good, if people don't like that then it is not good. Choices made for you is not good people should have the right to pick what they want to do, for example the community picks the assignment for the twelves, what if the twelves don't want to do that job but they are forced too because everyone does not have any freedom. Whatever "release'' means I have a feeling it is related to death because the giver said something about being old and soon I will be released. People might think being released is the best but that is not freedom they have to die as soon the community decides so that is against freedom because people might not want to die.

In my opinion it is better to have the freedom of choice and make a mistake than have no choice at all. The people in the community are controlled and because of that they are never able to choose anything. They are more like robots than people since they just follow orders and never think for their self. If they were able to make their own choices and pick for themselves they would see how unfair their society is. Even if they made the wrong decision they would only learn from their mistakes and then be able to make better decisions for themselves. Instead the people are controlled and the elders make all their choices. The community has never experienced any change and probably never will due to them wanting nothing to be different. Everything they feel or think is only on a little scale compared to what they could feel. Also the community wouldn’t be able to handle a really big change. All that would happen is that everybody would be really confused and wanting everything to go back to how it was before the change. So overall I think we should be able to make our own choices and mistakes.

If I had to choose between both of them I would choose getting your own choices made by the community. I chose the community to make your choices for you because I think as my opinion it is safer for the city and you and some people will make bad choices instead of good choices so it could effect the city and the people around it. In the book right now the city is safe to live in because the community makes the choices for the people. But if the community didn't make choices for the people the city would have criminals and there would be deaths in the city. I think as my opinion Canada should be making choices for us too because the there are too many deaths and there are too many criminals in the city. Also in Canada if you want a good job you have to get good grades and apply for a job. But in the book the comity gives you a job and you don't have to apply for a job. So I chose the community to make your choices because I thought it was easier and safer for the community.

I think that freedom of choice is better than basically being mindless slaves following the same schedule every day. The people in the community are very ignorant of true joy and pain. It is better to have freedom of choice because then you can learn from your mistakes. You can do anything you want within the law. The people of the community live very sad lives. They have no freedom. They can't pick their own spouse, their own job, and they have to apply for children! It's sad enough to make me cry. The Council of Elders are the puppeteers and the people of the community are their puppets. It is better to have freedom of choice because then you can say "No! I don't like my job" and you can change it. In the community, you are stuck with your job. No changing. In the community, you can't have more than two children. No freedom. You can't change your spouse. N freedom sucks. You can't disagree with anything in the community. Experiencing pain and joy is the way of life. The people of the community have no idea the true joy and pain of life. They don't even know what snow is! The community is a prison, a place where joy is and true life is sucked out of the air, leaving a dull, sad life. That is what no freedom of choice is like

I think it is better to have freedom of choice. Freedom of choice is better because you can do anything you want and not be stopped by anyone. If you had choices made for you it would a horrible life even though your going to be safe. Just because other people are making choices for you doesn't mean you are really going to be safe. I think there should be freedom of choice for everyone. If you do make a mistake you can also do something about it and make it better because you have freedom of choice. Everyone should have the choice to say yes or no if they don't want to do. Sometimes freedom is bad but sometimes people should be aloud to be free to do what they want and what they think is right. Like what they say YOLO! You only live once. It is way better to have freedom of choice because it is your life. If more people had freedom of choice there would be more happiness in the world. In my opinion freedom of choice is better.

I'm not surprised that the community controls every aspect of their lives, they even make choices for them. Due to the way the community was described, it seems like a place where they would make choices for the people. Personally, I think it is a terrible idea to make and decided choices and decision for the people. Even though they have a chance of making a mistake, that is still a great thing. If they made a mistake In a choice, they would know for next time, so they would learn from their mistake. Also, they would get to experience new things rather than just having the same all of the time. They would get experience from their mistakes and learn from them. Humans are supposed to make decisions and choices, that's a part of life, if they don't get the chance to make a decision or choice, I don't think they would really be a human (mentally, not physically). They would be more like robots rather than human, considering they're being controlled and can't do anything about it. With freedom of choice, you'd have a better chance of happiness than being without freedom of choice. If they had freedom of choice, they would have the right to say no to a job for example, and they could get a better job they would like, which would make them happy. I guess the community doesn't want that because then their perfect little community, would be a disaster. People saying no to jobs, spouses, rules, etc. They should be able to be independent, meaning they should be able to make decisions and choices themselves. They should be able to do what they want to do. Making choices and decisions is a part of life. That's what it's about. Life.

Imagine going out to eat and ordering a steak, only to have the waiter tell you that you may not have it, that you must have the soup instead. How would you feel? The choice between soup and steak is a fairly benign one, but it demonstrates a characteristic of human nature; we don't like to be forced into decisions we’re capable of making for ourselves. Even when we face more serious decisions, ones with moral implications, it is important that we choose for ourselves.
I think that it is better to have freedom of choice because if thought about in terms of having the right to vote for a leader as opposed to you having no say in what goes on, it is definitely better. Voting is the best way to get one’s opinions heard, as it allows one to select the candidate who best represents their point of view. In this way, the voters’ future is decided by the decisions they make when voting. Voting also helps democracy to prevail and if people didn’t vote they would be ruled by someone who wouldn’t necessarily represent them nor have the country’s opinions or train of thought in mind.
Taking the atmosphere in Jonas’s community I think that freedom of choice shouldn’t be an option. I stand behind this because I believe that having to give up decisions to have Sameness is beneficial for the community. For example, if they were to make choices how would they keep order and control everything if people were free to express their opinions and choice. As well, if Gabe were able to choose between picking a bright red, or bright yellow toy, he would make his own decision and choose according to colour and then he’d have a chance to express his liking. On the other hand he might make the wrong decision. But because of Sameness there is no room for error. Another reason it might not be better is because “What if they were allowed to choose their own mate? And chose wrong? Or what if they chose their own jobs?” Frightening!
Another example of how choice may not necessarily be a good thing is as follows. A doctor offers a substantial amount of treatment options to the patient, and allows the patient to choose. The patient has choice, but they would most likely lack the knowledge and physical state of mind to make the best decision. Obviously, it should be better if the doctor, with all their experience and knowledge, makes the decision, even though it restricts the patient’s choice. This means that having the freedom of choice isn’t necessarily better, the doctor (someone else) making the decision will most definitely be safer and more beneficial.
In all, excess freedom may allow us to perform better in general, but it will not always be the better than someone who has the capability of making the correct decision. Some choice is better than none, but more choice may not necessarily be better than some choice. There is some tipping point where increased amounts of freedom may begin to have the adverse effects that I have talked about above. The last remark I’d like to make is that “We are responsible for our lives and our decisions. Though they may not always be the right ones, we are learning from our mistakes. Mankind’s greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have freedom of choice. So it is a privilege to have the freedom of choice, but yet it can also be better to have your choices made for you.”

I think that Jonas's community should be able to make their own choices, even if they do make a mistake. Making choices is what makes us who we are, it makes us different. We aren't robots. If we make a mistake, we can learn from that mistake and learn from it. We can choose who we marry, we can choose if we want to see things for what they look like. Jonas has a point. He can be angry because it is his choice. His community should be able to see colours and they should be able to choose their jobs. Without the freedom of choice, you would not be anything more than a pawn in a chess game, being controlled by the elders. Choice is a wonderful thing. We all wake up, choose the clothes we want to wear. Now imagine waking up, wearing the exact same thing for the rest of your life. Not exactly your idea of an ideal life is it? Or what about the choice of having a pet? Or the choice of what to eat? The freedom of choice is a gift. Jonas's community should fight for their gift. So what if you are safe? Life is about taking risks. That is why I believe that the freedom of choice is the best option for his community.

I think that they should have the freedom to make their own choices. Canada has the freedom and nothing really bad has happened. Basically everyone who has the freedom grew up to be fine and successful it is ok to make little mistakes I think it is normal you can’t really make people do things they don’t want to do. Imagine being told how many babies you will have, who to marry, and what job you will have for the rest of your life most of their lives in the book is wake up go to work come back home eat take care of the children and do nothing that would be very boring and seeing in black and white would be much boring and messing with peoples DNA that is no right these people deserve to live normal human lives not what other people decide. They should experience a real life with real pain and real choices unlike what their living right now it’s not normal. And to “release” people even babies get released but no one knows where they go. The community controls every ones lives without telling them about how real people live and what they are supposed to do like see colours or they should at least tell them about pain without just giving them a pill and to just forget about what happened.

I think that people should have there own choices and rights to make their own desisions. I once asked my friend to choose what she liked for me, but after words I thought to myself that I should have chose to choose the shirt myself. It is good for others to choose for you sometimes but not always. There woulde not be many surprises or any surprises if we always chose for ourselves. I would want freedom and make choices for myself, although I think big decisions should be made for me by my parents. For example if they want to send me somewhere. I should'nt make those decisions. People should not be controlled every aspect of their lives though. Everyone should have their own rights and make their own decisions although they could get ideas and/or help in their decisions from trusted people like parents. Everyone has their own rights and their own choices.
