Melody and the other students with special needs and disabilities are together in a special class, H5, year after year. While Melody feels excluded from the rest of the school and would like to be a part of a "regular" class, she also has some positive experiences in H5 and she recognizes how difficult many of the H5 kids are to take care of. Do you think special needs students benefit more from being together in a special class, or from being in a "regular" class? You must pick a position and support it with reasons. After you have posted your position you must respond to one person's post in the other class.
I think that people with disabilities should be put in to normal classrooms. They should be in normal classrooms because If they see other people they will see that they should act like that. So if they are in a normal class room they can also gain some social skills because each year they would be with different people. They can also practise more speech and learn more words just by talking to normal people and not talking to other disabled people who sometimes can't talk properly. It is also a benefit for the "normal" people because it can help them understand what is a person with disabilities. It can also help them be more nice to a disabled person because they would know them personally and not just seeing them and hearing about them

How do you know that all the "normal" people will understand the H5 students and will be nicer to them? What if some of the "normal" kids bully them and still make fun of them even after knowing them and they would make fun of the H5 students even more when they joined a "regular class"? What if Melody feels even more left out because she is probably the only person who can't speak in the whole class and hearing all the other kids talking makes her feel upset that she can't talk to them?

I think the special need children should be all together in a regular class. Then the kids won't feel left out and they will feel like they are actually part of the class. They will also get to learn new things since they are always learning the same thing every year. For example when they go to the music room, they feel so happy being part of a big class.

I think that Melody should be in a "Regular Class" because. It is discrimination if She/He is not in a regular class. that also might make her feel bad. But also maybe H5 might be good because kids who don't have disabilities are making fun of the H5 kids. I say that Melody also should be in the regular class because she made a new friend and she wants to stay with her friend.

I think people like Melody should be put into normal classrooms. People with disabilities should interact with other people not the same people every year. Kids with disabilities can learn the same things as "normal" kids. I don't think that it is right to put kids with disabilities in their own class because it makes them look like they're dumb and don't have the ability to do other things like the kids. I believe that disabled kids are a lot smarter than people say they are.

I think Melody should be put in a regular class. I think Melody should be put in a regular classroom because she would not be left out and be able to make new friends and so that she would'nt be left out on the work. I also feel bad for Melody because she has to stay in the same kind of classroom for many years and Melody always has to listen to the same songs everyday. A child with special needs could be given different homework and another care teacher but should always be in the same classroom as other kids.

I think that the H5 class shouldn't exist and all of the special need kids need to be in a "regular" classroom because I think everyone no matter who they are should be treated equally. I think Melody should be in a regular class because she keeps learning the same thing every time and she probably wants to be in a regular class but if she is in a regular class she can get a special helper to help her with stuff she doesn't know. Also Melody can be able to make new friends in the normal class. Also it is good for the normal class to have people like Melody because they will see how it is like for a person who has special needs and disabilities. Also Melody can be able to know different things not the things she keeps learning over and over again. That is why I think people who have special needs and disabilities should be in a normal class.

I think that Melody and the rest of the H5 students should be put in a "regular" class. I think that they should all be in a regular class because day after day and year after year they are always part of H5 and it would be nice if they could be part of a "regular" class where they could interact with the "regular" kids that don't have disabilities and maybe make a few friends if possible. They should be treated like the rest of the kids in the school and not feel excluded from the rest of the school. Melody can't talk or walk but that doesn't mean she can't learn in a "regular class". Some of the "regular" kids might make fun of them but they would eventually realize how hard it was to have these disabilities and eventually stop making fun of them. If the H5 students can't learn or do something the "normal" students can like homework they can still be in the class and the teachers could think something up like giving the H5 students easier work to do in class so then the H5 students could learn what they would have learned in the special class while talking and interacting with the "regular" students

I agree with your thought process. They are stuck in H5 day after day and year after year. Interacting would be good and they might even teach the other students without disabilities some tolerance and how to accept on another. People with disabilities live in a world designed primarily for the able-bodied. People with disabilities want to live no differently than anybody else. They want to be able to go shopping, go to the movies, go to eat, work, and enjoy life, fully realizing that must be done within the boundaries of their limitations. Accepting disability and redefining life within the limitations imposed by disease is the biggest hurdle for people with disabilities. There are harsh realities. There are some experiences some able-bodied people may take for granted which people with disabilities must forgo. Disabled people may miss out on the joy of rough-housing with children, playing competitive sports, travelling or taking long road trips. Crowed events become daunting. Social situations become uncomfortable. The question becomes- do you put yourself out there or risk being covered by the veil of isolation? Demanding people and those who lack understanding about realities of your disability can also be provoking. For example, a person had surgical procedure which restricted her driving for a period of time. Her mother called to tell her she needed to go to the store, disregarding the restrictions that were given to her daughter. She then had to tell her mom she couldn't help her. The point is there are certain things that can hold a person back, take a disability for example, but when the question rises about being put in a class with "regular" people, I think it should proceed as do you. Like I mentioned, social conversations become uncomfortable. But if kept in H5 they will face this in the future. Melody can't talk, but she sure can hear. Other students with disabilities can indeed talk and communicate but because of their disability they are excluded. No matter if they are mentally or physically challenged you are no different, you are an equal. They are no less than all of us, they may not be as fortunate as us but that shouldn't discriminate them from being in a "regular" class. Overall Anthony I am on your side I think that you were onto something there. In the end I agree with your position and strongly support it.

I think melody should be in a "regular" class because then she and the other kids with disabilities wouldn't feel left out. If they stayed in room H5, the kids would literally lose their minds! Imagine if you were forced to stay in kindergarten for your entire life and you didn't have a voice or a working body. Melody and the other kids feel 10 times worse. If they were in a regular class, the kids would actually have a chance at being "normal". They would have friends and then they might even start on the path to recovery. The new program that the principal created is a good start. With that program, kids like Melody will have great friends that appreciate the kids with special needs for who they are.

I think Melody and H5 should be in a regular class because we are all the same. Disability shouldn't mean retarded or stupid but should mean bright and encourageable because we should be role models and helping one anothe like what we do in a "regular" class and what does it mean to be regular? Does it mean we are normal and others are not? Why should the kids that are okay be regular instead of everybody? That's just plain mean that we are regulars and not them, we should be there for others by their side and not discriminate others by calling disables or retard or constapated. Melody and H5 deserve to be in the same class as others not special nor regular!

In my opinion, I think that the special needs kids should be put into regular classes and get to participate in some of their activities and subjects they do. If they we're put with the other kids, they would observe and learn how the other kids react and do things. They might be able to pick up and learn how to do stuff. Also, they might feel left out and sad that they are put alone. They might have to do some other learning strategies than the other students too though. It will also give them a chance to make friends with them. They might have to stay in a specific part of the classroom that slightly separates them because they might (or might not) becomes distraction. It's a good thing for the other kids too, they could learn how hard it is to be a special needs. In conclusion, I think that special needs kids should be put into a regular classroom because it would make them happy, and is a good thing for them and everyone around them.

I think a child benefits more from being around what you call "regular" people. Regardless of the fact that they are unlike the rest of the pack they should be included. As with children in a general education setting, those with special needs have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Some children my have recognizable disabilities, such as a child with cerebral palsy who is in a wheelchair or a child with vision difficulties who wears glasses. Other children, while not having been diagnosed with a specific disability, may exhibit challenging behaviors that interrupt the daily routine. Children may have a nonspecific diagnosis, such as developmental delay. Pediatricians and other medical professionals often prefer this diagnosis for young children, since it applies that, given time and opportunity, the child may "catch up" in the areas in which they are currently delayed. In other cases, a child may be "at risk" for a disability because of environmental reasons or due to a chronic health condition, such as a depressed immune system or chronic asthma. At risk does not mean that the child has a particular disability; it simply means that there is a high probability that, without intervention, the child will develop a permanent delay. Regardless of the type of delay a child experiences, it is important to keep in mind that all children can learn and should be allowed to participate in everyday routines and activities to the best of their capabilities. Research tells us that children learn best in natural environments with typically developing peers. This interaction not only benefits the child with special needs, but also helps children without special needs learn about tolerance and acceptance of others. This being said people with special needs should be put in a classroom with everybody because putting students in a different classroom for their disadvantages is discriminated them which is no worse than racism. That is why the government set up the disability discrimination act in 1995. The government wants to make sure that disabled people have the same chances as everyone else to join in and live a full and happy life. This is a law to make sure disabled people are treated fairly. Which of course all comes back to the classroom. The students should all be treated equally and they should be allowed to be apart of the "regular" classroom. Everybody has to be given the chance to try. Who knows, there might be hidden potential in these kids and nobody knows. I finally state that children with disabilities should be put in "regular" classrooms.

Great theory karmin and I positively agree with you that kids should be put into what are called "regular" classrooms. Everybody should be treated fairly cause if not treated fair, some people coulld feel left out and unhappy. Also, if the students can observe and learn the "rugular" student, they could learn from them. You are right, everybody should be given at lest a chance to try, and benefits the other students by them seeing how hard it is to have some disabilities. It isn't just good for the classroom and people in it, it also makes the special needs kids happy, and everyone else to. To conclude, I do agree with you karmin, that the special needs kids should be put in what's called a "regular" classroom.

I believe that Melody should be in a regular classroom because some people that have H5 need to recognize the world. This world isn't just ABC it's way beyond. It gets easy for Melody to learn he exact same thing every year, as Melody is a very bright and intelligent student. If she goes to the regular class the students would probably know how people with special needs feel. Melody would also feel great to have new friends for support. No one should ever differentiate between normal people and people with special needs. That's why I believe that Melody should be in a regular classroom.

In my most honest opinion, I think that special needs students should be in a "regular" class. My reasoning is that I believe in equality and everyone should be treated equaly and not feel left out. The special needs students might need special needs, but everyone deserves to be treated like a "regular" student. Not to feel like some students are better or less better than other students. Thus sending the special needs students in a "regular" class with maybe a student helper if they need any help. In the end of the day we are all students and we all should be treated equaly.

I think special needs students benefit more if they are in a "regular" class with other people because its not really fair to the special needs students like melody to be in the same class, H5 with all the same people every year. Melody and the other students with disabilities are obviously going to feel like being in a "regular" class with normal kids and make friends who will accept them as who they are. People with disabilities are humans too, they shouldnt be in the same room with the same students every single year. It's good for melody and other students like her to be in a class with "normal" kids because the normal kids would know how it is being disabled. Melody and the other disabled students can also learn about what normal kids learn about.

I think that melody has been left out and put onto one side. Melody needs a friend who has the same kind of disorder and that can understand her really well and also one that she likes.
