I think Melody is disabled because she doesn't have the ability to walk. But I am seeing that melody has an ability that no one else has which is photographic memory.

No, I do not think that Melody is disabled because she has proven she has many abilities such pressing buttons on a remote and on a computer. She is also very smart and creative I can start seeing many abilities developing and improving.

I don't think she is disabled, she is actually smart but is put down by here classmates, not H5. She is very smart than her classmates and here other ability is to maybe suck all the information and uses it to her advantage like listening, thinking, and seeing is what makes up her smartness and she is on such a high level

Well, now i don't think she is disabled to do stuff. She has a wheelchair, that makes her roll places to places. She also has a new computer that can talk for her but all she has to do is tap the word or phrase and the computer says it out loud. She still can't go to the washroom by herself. She always needs someone with her. someone always has to feed her. I think she is a little disabled because if she gets out of her chair she can just fall out, she can crawl a bit but not walk on her two legs. I think she is only a little bit disabled.

Melody has a disabled body, but not a disabled mind. The loss of the use of her body has given her strength in mind. The fact that she has a photographic memory and was as smart as an adult when she was a baby proves my point.

But if she can't walk and can't talk doesn't that mean that she is disabled to do those things?

I think Melody is disabled but not in a bad way its that she just cant walk and talk. I am starting to see that Melody is actually a really really smart person and since she is going to a regular class she can prove to people that she is a really smart person and a normal person.

Yes, I do think Melody is disabled, she has a disability to walk so she needs to use a wheelchair and to talk so she needs to use a communicating board thus she is disabled to do those activities. But that doesn't mean that she can't be able to do other activities just because she is disabled to walk and talk. She is able to understand what quite well and she has a photographic memory, which is a gift that makes Melody and other people who have this ability to remember things like taking a picture of things that happen on in your life. When she remember things she it's like looking through different pictures in her mind.

I think Melody is disabled because she doesn't have the ability to talk or move. I also think that she isn't disabled because she has that new talking device and she is the smartest in her class.

I don't think Melody is disabled. Even though she can't walk or talk she still has great abilities. She was in H5 for many years and never got to learn anything else other than the alphabets and so on however even though she hadn't been in the "regular" class as long as all the "regular" kids Melody was still as smart as the rest of the class. Even though Melody can't walk or talk but she is incredibly smart and if she were to study some more I think she would improve greatly and probably become one of the smartest students in the "regular" class if she wasn't already.

I do not think that she completely disable because now, she can talk with others using her meditalker. And she can still use her mind to think. She can move her thumbs to do various things such as typing on her meditalker and pressing buttons on a T.V control. Melody has a photographic memory, something that most "normal" kids don't have. She can move her arms (stiffly, but surely), she has perfect eyesight, so I don't think Melody is as disabled as everyone says.

i think melody is disabled, but i also think that she isn't disabled because melody has a lot of abilities. she is smart because she answered all 50 question in the quiz right. she has a lot of thoughts in her mind that she wants to say and now she has a computer she say what was in her mind. i might even say she is smarter now than any other students in her class that don't have any disabilities. melody cant move her body, but she is a very smart girl that tries hard!

Melody has changed from the beggining of the book till now. She remembers everything really well. I think melody is not disabled even though she cant talk or walk but she has great memory of remembering things in her head. She has a disability but it does not mean that she is very weak. Melody is a strong and bright girl learning alot of new things in her life. She is trying to work parts of her body at certain times to help her in the future and also to be strong. Melody does have a photographic memory that all the other kids dont have but only she does.

I think she is disabled but she can still do many things. People think that just because she cant move most of her body and speak properly shes stupid but shes actually really smart. So just because shes disabled doesn't mean shes without ability to do things.

Melody is a smart, funny and talented fifth grader. She loves to listen to music, spend time with her family, and learn new things at school. Nobody or at least very few people know just how smart and funny she is. That's because she has cerebral palsy, a condition that leaves her unable to move or speak. She needs help eating and using the toilet, and she can't bathe or dress herself. But in every other way she is a typical 11 year old, and she wants more than anything to let the world know just what, and how much she is thinking. Most of the time, Melody feels like a goldfish trapped in a bowl, able to observe the world around her but unable to interact with it. Sometimes she feels like there are so many thoughts and feelings inside her head, just bursting to get out. And sometimes the pressure and frustration get to her so much that she has no choice but to scream, like when she finally loses her patience as her third grade teacher refuses to teach the special ed kids anything more challenging than the alphabet. Her abilities have started showing through series of ways. Her schools, eventual decision to mainstream those with disabilities offers its own challenges and opportunities. Melody has to deal with mean children who don't realize that she can understand every hurtful word they say, that she has feelings and hopes and disappointments just like they do. Fortunately, her teacher is skilled and sensitive and refuses to let the painful comments get out of control. I mentioned this so you are able to really understand how I see some of her abilities. Because you might be thinking one minute Melody is in room H5 and the next minute somewhere else or she had a bad teacher now and a good one the next. Basically I am painting a picture of where and what I see that makes me see some of her abilities. I saw one of her abilities when she was in the class and they were having a spelling test and she would be able to point at the letters and get them right. She was also able to get all her tests right. Another is being shown with the help of her computer. One of Melody's heroes is Stephen W. Hawking, the physicist who has been able to have a successful life and career despite being confined to a wheelchair. Melody also spends her days in a wheelchair; If she can get access to a special computer like the one Hawking uses, she would be able to show the world how she is feeling and thinking, and show the world how smart she has been all along. And indeed she gets one of those computers. I now witness her using the computer in the novel and sense her abilities. For example, she types in anything she wants to say and it is translated with sound. If she had this earlier, the world would have never been able to doubt a thing she is or isn't able to do. In totality, I think Melody is disabled and yes I am starting to see some of her abilities.

Yes, unfortunately Melody is disabled physically. She can't move her legs, hands, and body. Thankfully mentally, Melody is a very smart girl. If she sees something it doesn't go out of her mind. Or when someone says something she never forgets it. She is getting intelligent day by day. The change that everyone sees in her is that she just got that machine were she can express her feelings. Which shows what she thinks and feels. Also she is trying to get good marks in school. By the help of her caretaker.

Different people see melody in different ways, some say she is disabled, and some say she is not. People usually judge from the look of melody or from listening to her features. It depends on what you look at for disability. For instance, melody cannot walk or talk. She is unable to walk or talk, and being unable to do something makes it a disability. But that also doesn't mean she is disable. Melody isn't just a girl in a wheelchair who can't talk, she is much more than that. She is a polite, nice, intelligent girl who just happens to be unable to speak or walk. Before it did seem that melody was disable because she had a hard time to communicate and couldn't walk, that's has changed though. She still can't walk but the now has a new way to communicate. She has this new system board in which she presses buttons and the devise talks for her. I believe it is called a meditalker. It is meant for people like her to be able to speak without even talking. Melody is very smart, smartest in her class I believe. With a mind and brain like hers, it's hard to think she is disabled. Her body may not work, but her mind definitely does work. So she can't walk or talk- doesn't mean she is disabled. In a way she is disabled, but in another way, she isn't. I finally would like to say that even though melody can't walk or talk, she has other features, and I think she is not all disabled.

i think Melody is different and very smart out of the other disabled kids because she was in the same class and did the same things she did not get a chance to do very much, but now she is trying hard and learning.

I dont think Melody has a disability and i do think she has it at the same time. Melody cant talk or walk but she does have a photographic memory of remembering things very well. She does want to express what she has in her mind but she cant let it out. Melody is very smart and does know how to use things and follow instructions. She is very strong and very self confident about being herself and taking the right choices.
